Our Purpose
To Exalt God
To Edify Christ
To Equip Believers
To Evangelize the Lost
We
are a nondenominational New Testament congregation, part of
a worldwide movement to restore the essentials of apostalic
Christianity. We endeavor to lead lives of faithfulness and
devotion guided by Christ as the divine Son of God and the
Bible as the inspired record of God's revelation. The Williamsport
Christian Church has no governing headquarters. We are locally
autonomous and our own Elders lead in spiritual matters.
We
call ourselves Christians. We realize that we are not the only
Christians, but simply Christians only. We have no other name.
Our
authority is the Word of God. We have no creed but the Bible.
Where it speaks, we speak; where it is silent, we are silent.
The Scriptures are our only rule of faith and practice. We
accept the fullest conformity to the clear and uncontested
teachings of the Bible. We insist upon those matters which
the New Testament sets forth as requirements for forgiveness
of sin and membership in Christ's Church: faith in God and
His Son (Matt. 16:16; Heb. 11:6); repentance of sin (Luke 13:3,
Acts 3:19); a public confession of Christ (Rom. 10:9, Acts
8:37); baptism by immersion in the name of Christ for the remission
of sins (Acts 2:38, Gal. 3:27); and a Christian life of steadfastness
(I Cor. 15:58).
Each
first day of the week, we observe Communion Services (Acts
20:7), believing this to be the will of Christ and a means
of spiritual nourishment (John 6:53).
Our
goal is to restore the church as it was when it first began.
We don't claim to be perfect or the "only" church.
We are simply a body of believers working to restore the vitality
of the Christian life. |
